About FieldMouse
FieldMouse Research is a fieldwork agency operating within the market research industry. We recruit participants for qualitative research anywhere in the UK, with the social purpose of ensuring the fair representation of rural, regional and rarely heard voices in all market research.
Our clients include the UK’s leading research companies who are commissioned by a range of organisations including government departments, regulators and utilities companies to conduct important research that often shapes policy.
FieldMouse is an MRS Company Partner and accredited with the MRS AQR Recruiter Accreditation Scheme (RAS) as an in-house recruiter. In 2023 FieldMouse won the inaugural MRS Operations Award for Recruitment Excellence.
Our team is currently based between Mid Wales, North Wales and Sussex. Due to continued growth, we are now seeking a new Fieldwork Manager to join our Mischief of Mice, and we would love to expand into other rural pockets of the UK.
If you’re looking for a new challenge with a fast-growing, innovative business that trusts its people to work independently from home, then read on! If not, well at least you now know that ‘mischief’ is a collective noun for mice.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of qualitative fieldwork recruitment, ensuring that it is in line with the organisation’s objectives and clients’ goals. You will be responsible for developing and implementing fieldwork recruitment strategies, ensuring that they are tailored to meet the needs of both the organisation and the client on a project-by-project basis. You will be working closely with end clients. Over time you will be involved in costing and writing proposals, developing new business and attending industry networking events as well as participant-facing community events such as agricultural shows.
Ideally you will have experience of working in qualitative research recruitment however we will consider candidates with demonstrable related experience in retail, hospitality, sales, customer service or any role which involves regular contact and experience of dealing with members of the public, so long as this is combined with Microsoft 365 proficiency.
This is a full-time role (5 days, 40 hours including lunch, per week) however for the right candidate we can be flexible and offer a four-day week 32 hours per week). All candidates must be able to work Monday and Friday. Those electing for a four-day week can choose which day (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) they would like off or take two half days. Alternatively, if you wish to work a four-day week over five we can accommodate this too. FieldMouse supports a healthy work/life balance, and we can be flexible around which hours you work in the day. The specifics of the working hours can be agreed with the successful candidate, or if you wish you can specify your needs in your covering letter.
This is a remote working role, based anywhere in the UK, with some travel. We hold quarterly team building sessions, usually in the Welsh Borders but sometimes in London. The successful candidate may be required to attend external events such as agricultural shows around the UK and must therefore be able to travel with occasional overnight stays. FieldMouse is an MRS Company Partner and we try to get to as many in-person MRS events as possible – usually in London, sometimes Manchester. We also attend community events including country and agricultural shows and you would be encouraged to represent FieldMouse at any such events in your local area.
Key roles and responsibilities with skills required
Sourcing and telephone screening participants in the UK to take part in our clients’ qualitative market and social research.
FieldMouse has a large nationwide panel of participants ready to screen, but this role also requires the ability to think laterally and creatively about how to find ‘hard to reach’ participants such as the digitally excluded and financially vulnerable.
Extensive personal and/or professional networks would be a big asset – we need the type of person whose friends say, “they know everyone!”
However equally we need someone who is not afraid to pick up the phone and speak to a small charity or business on the other side of the country.
Project Management – after an initial training period of 3 months, including MRS AQR RAS accreditation, you will be expected to manage projects from start to finish. This will involve:
Providing regular updates to clients via email, phone and MS Teams.
Tracking multiple demographic and attitudinal quotas.
Communicating clearly with participants including sending reminders to attend fieldwork.
Some evening work may be required, for example to support participants in joining an online focus group.
Attending industry and community events.
FieldMouse holds an annual Christmouse Party in Montgomery on the Welsh Borders in early December and staff attendance is mandatory (in a good way – trust us, you’ll want to be there)!
Essential/Desirable
A background in sales or other outbound telephone work would be advantageous and desirable.
Experience in the fieldwork/operations sector within market research is desirable but not essential.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft 365 and an aptitude for learning new software skills.
Being a team player who communicates clearly with a remote working team is essential.
You must have an interest in rural issues and be committed to FieldMouse’s social purpose of ensuring the fair representation of rural, regional and rarely heard voices in market research.
A UK driving licence would be desirable. Mileage and travel expenses will be covered by the company.
The successful candidate may be based anywhere in the UK, though we are keen to expand our rural network in new locations and would be especially interested to hear from candidates in the South West or North East of England, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
